How do I create an Essay question?
You will learn how to create an Essay type question to be used in a Quiz (exam, test).
Essay question types are useful for sentence-level (or more - paragraph, essay, etc.) responses from students.
1. Enter your course.

2. Click on the Gear icon.

3. Select More.

4. Click on Questions.

5. Click on Create a new question.

6. Select Essay.

7. Click on Add.

8. Type in the Question name field.
Note: Only the Teacher of a course will see the Question name. This is to help you readily identify the subject or contents of each question at a glance.

9. Type the writing prompt in the Question text field.

1. Change the points default if desired.
The default points are how this question relates to the other questions you are going to use in the quiz you are planning.

The ID number is only needed if you are going to write your own calculation in the gradebook.

5. Set the Response format as desired.
HTML editor is the default, and in most cases that is the best way to go. However, there may be times when you want students to submit plain text or HTML with an attached file (HTML editor with file picker), such as a photo of their work, like might be desired in a Math course, where the process is important to show.

6. Response Template
The response template allows you to have text or something automatically appear in the student's textbox. So, in this example, a table with display where the student is instructor to complete the rest of the table.

7. Grader information.
This text is for any graders that may be grading the essays. This is to give your graders greater consistency when grading.

10. Click on Save changes.
