How do I add a VoiceThread activity in my TITANium course?
You will learn how to add a VoiceThread to your TITANium course.
VoiceThread enables students to easily communicate and interact around media (video, presentations, images, or documents). Students can post comments by audio, video, or text. It takes just a minute to see how VoiceThread works!
Instructors have the option of creating graded assignments around VoiceThread. Students can also record their own VoiceThreads.
1. Enter your TITANium course
Below is a sample course.
2. Click on the Gear icon.
The Gear menu reveals the following links: Edit settings, Turn editing on, Filters, Gradebook setup, Outcomes, Backup, Restore, Import, Recycle bin, Reset, and More...
3. Turn editing on.
4. Click on Add an activity or resource.
5. Click on External tool.
6. Click on Add.
7. Type an Activity name.
The Activity name is a plain text entry field. This will be the name of the link to the Activity on the course main page and in the Gradebook.
Including an Action word in the name, e.g., Submit, makes the purpose of the link clear.
8. Select VoiceThread from the preconfigured tool menu.
9. Click on Show more...
10. For Launch container, select New window.
Currently, New window is the necessary choice because otherwise the redirect to the VoiceThread portal may not work.
11. Select the Grade settings.
To create a gradebook column for a scored VoiceThread assignment, enter the maximum point value.
The score entered in VoiceThread for a graded assignment created with Assignment Builder will be automatically transferred to the gradebook.
For non-scored VoiceThread activities, change the Grade Type to None using the Type menu. A grade item will still be created but it won't affect the course total.
12. Click on Save and return to course.
To save your settings and display the VoiceThread setup screen, click Save and return to course.
13. Click on the voice thread link you just created.
14. The VoiceThread module opens and is ready for you to use.
15. Select your preferred VoiceThread option.
16. Click the button to select the VoiceThread type.
Course View: Displays all VoiceThreads shared/used in your course.
Individual VoiceThread: Displays a single VoiceThread (selected by instructor) for students to view. [Learn how to create a new VoiceThread (on VoiceThread website).]
Home: Displays to student all VoiceThreads they created and those shared within courses they are enrolled in.
Assignment Builder: Enables faculty to create a graded assignment. Assignment options are: (Students will...) Create a VoiceThread, Submit a Comment to a VoiceThread, or Watch a VoiceThread. Grades entered within VoiceThread tool are transferred to the TITANium gradebook
Read/view more detailed descriptions of the four VoiceThread setup options on the VoiceThread for Moodle (aka TITANium) website.
17. When using Assignment Builder, select the type of assignment.
Assignments created with Assignment Builder are linked to the TITANium gradebook. Depending on the assignment type selected, students will:
- Create a VoiceThread.
- Submit a Comment to a VoiceThread the instructor has posted.
- Watch a VoiceThread the instructor has posted.
18. Follow the VoiceThread steps for the individual assignment type.
"After you've selected the type of assignment you'd like to create, you'll be walked through the steps to complete the setup process. You can include a description for your assignment, select a VoiceThread you've created for the Comment or Watch Assignment, decide whether students are allowed to resubmit their assignments or if the first submission is final, and even require a specific number of comments for the Comment Assignment."
