How do I show the Course total column to students?

You will learn how to show the Course total column in the gradebook to your students even if you have some hidden Grade items in your gradebook.

Follow these steps to display to students the Course total column in their gradebook even though you have some hidden Grade items.

This guide has been updated for TITANium 2019-2020.

By default, the category totals and Course total columns are hidden to students if they contain a Grade item that is hidden.

Follow these steps to first determine which grade item(s) is hidden (unless you already know) and then unhide the grade item or adjust the gradebook to show category totals despite hidden grade items.

Determine which grade item is hidden.

1. Click on the Gear icon.

2. Select Gradebook setup.

3. One activity grade item is in grey text.

Now, you know that it is an activity that is hidden. Follow the steps to unhide an activity or the guide to adjust the gradebook to show category totals even though they contain hidden grade items.

4. One grade item has grey colored text.

If the grade item is not an activity, then follow the guide to unhide a grade item or to adjust the gradebook to show categories with hidden grade items.

1. Click on the Gear icon.

6. The User report now displays the course total.

The course total displays as well as the activity that was just set to Show. Hiding an activity on the course main page, also hides it in the gradebook.

5. Select Show.

1. Click on the Gear icon.

Click on Grades.

2. Select Gradebook setup.

3. Click on Course grade settings.

You can also use the dropdown menu to select Course grade settings.

4. Scroll down to the bottom section.

5. Click on the dropdown menu.

6. Decide whether to include the grades for hidden items.

No, I don't want to include the points for the hidden item.

1. Select Show totals excluding hidden items

2. User report now displays the course total, excluding hidden items.

Note that the course total possible points is 210 with the student having a score of 187.

The hidden item (Sinagua quiz) does not display to the student and is not included in the course total.

1. Select Show totals including hidden items.

2. The User report now displays the course total and the score for the hidden item.

Note that the hidden item (Sinagua quiz) is still hidden, but the score is included in the course total which is now 188.17 out of 220.
