How do I set YouTube to auto-generate captions for my video?

You will learn how to get YouTube to auto-generate captions for your video.

Follow these steps after you have uploaded your video file to your YouTube account.

I want to verify that the Video language is English.

1. Click on the User menu in the top right corner.

User menu is selected.

2. Select YouTube Studio.

Creator Studio is the older version. Yours may still have Creator Studio instead of YouTube Studio. The screenshots will be different.

3. Click on the Adanced tab.

4. Set the Video language as English.

English is selected in the Video language field.

If English is already selected for the Video language, then you don't need to do anything. Automatic captions should be created within a day (or less) of you uploading the video.

5. Click on Save, if you made any changes.

If the captions were not automatically generated, then you will not have a CC button in the lower right-hand corner of the player.

Sometimes videos just don't get automatic captioning. You can try again, though by deleting the original video and uploading a new one with the Video language set to English.
